That you don’t have to be someone special to create something beautiful for the Kingdom, you just have to love others as you would yourself and be willing to allow God to use you for His glory. The tale is deeply adventurous, well thought out and richly worded. We LOVED them, and cannot wait for the next book The main characters are incredibly inspiring and courageous. It is based around two rabbits, Heather and Picket who become homeless and without close family. Thank you for showing me that it is possible to tell a story as brimming with hope and truth as Tolkien and as whimsical and wise as Narnia. The Green Ember is a substantial novel for children. You are the rabbits with swords guy, but you’re also my hero, the kind of person I’d like to be brave enough to be some day. Thank you for all the hours spent bringing these books into the world, for choosing to take the risks and inspiring not just me, but hundreds of other children all over the world and showing us what it means to love your readers and to tell a good story. Thank you for sharing yourself and your stories with us. Smith, from me, and all the other fans out there who have read your books and loved your characters, thank you. They are beautiful books with beautiful illustrations that tell a beautiful story of loyalty and hope.Īnd, to Mr. Heather and Picket led a peaceful and happy life in their sheltered home of Nick Hollow. I know I’ve said it several times before but it’s worth saying again: if you haven’t read The Green Ember yet I highly recommend you do- even if you don’t particularly care for rabbits or swords (why you wouldn’t want to read a book about rabbits literally wielding swords is a different matter) BUT, it’s full of compelling, realistic characters and rich, mysterious world-building and has a fabulous ending. Till the Green Ember rises, or the end of the world. Unfortunately I did not cry at the end as many other readers have reported, but these books have been a part of my life and my sibling’s lives ever since the first of us finished “the dramatic bunny book”. Ember’s End, the finale to the Green Ember series came out a year ago (well, a year and two weeks ago), so to celebrate I thought I’d do a fully colored picture of my favorite moments in that book for each of the main characters in one big picture. So, it’s very late, but here’s my contribution to the Ember’s End birthday bash.
